Get Advice Before Gall Bladder Surgery

Gall Bladder Surgery?
What conventional medicine won't dare tell you about gall bladder removal surgery
by Mike Adams
The first piece of advice I have for people who are considering gall bladder surgery is to
  • get advice before the surgery, not after it, because once you've had the gall bladder removed, your options are quite limited.
  • Remember that conventional medicine loves to go in and remove organs that are presenting symptoms rather than addressing the root cause of the problem in the first place. They think that by removing the organ that hurts, they've cured the problem. Hogwash!

Gall bladder disease and gallstones are almost always the result of poor nutrition.

For example: consuming a lot of soft drinks, sugar products, highly acidic foods like red meat and products made with white flour all contribute to the formation of gallstones.
Gallstones can be reversed, but it’s something that takes quite a bit of time. After all, they have been formed in your body over a period of decades, so it's not something you can get rid of overnight from a nutritional standpoint.

At the same time, I know that a lot of people are experiencing extreme pain when it comes to passing gall bladder stones. So obviously, those people are looking at surgical procedures as a more immediate technique for getting rid of the pain.
Let's look at some information about gallstones because it is something that affects somewhere around 18 million people in the
United States, and maybe even as many as 1 in every 12 people. And yet most people don't know they have them.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), pain from gallstones results in about 800,000 hospitalizations and more than 500,000 operations each year in the United States. Unfortunately, the NIH doesn't give people a lot of information about how to actually avoid gall bladder problems. It's also critical to recognize that the gall bladder has an important function in digestion.

And, if you just remove it (which by the way is quite the barbaric thing to do), you are compromising your digestive health for the rest of your life. Surgeons who remove gall bladders are complacent in educating patients about nutritional changes they need to pursue after losing this important digestive organ.
For example, you're not going to get the same quality of digestion you would have had if your gall bladder were in place. You're not going to get the excretion of the bile from the gall bladder into the small intestine, and as a result, you're not going to efficiently digest foods that are moving through your
digestive tract. This is especially true for dietary fats, including essential fatty acids.
Without a gall bladder, you're not going to be able to digest dietary fats with any degree of efficiency. This means that if you don't take bile salts as a nutritional supplement every time you eat healthy fats, you'll miss out on all-important omega-3 fatty acids and other healthy oils. That's why people who have had gall bladder removal surgery usually suffer the classic signs of EFA deficiencies: poor nervous system function, irritability, learning difficulties, heart
disease, poor blood sugar control, and so on.
Doctors and
surgeons flat out aren't telling patients this all-important information. It's downright criminal, if you ask me. This basic education should be required by law. It's flat-out evil to remove an essential organ from a patient's body and neglect to tell them about the long-term adjustments they need to make in order to compensate for that missing organ.
And you know why surgeons don't tell people the truth about gall bladder removal surgery? I suspect it's because if people knew the horrifying nutritional consequences of the procedure, they'd refuse to do it, and surgeons and hospitals would lose out on those paying customers. Talking to a gall bladder surgeon about your gall bladder
health is sort of like taking your car to a greasy garage mechanic and asking, "Is there anything wrong with the transmission?" The answer you get is designed to pad his pockets. If you want honest answers on gall bladder pain, go visit a naturopath.
As always, I strongly recommend that people who are considering this surgery look at naturopathic options, because removing a functional organ from your digestive tract is never a health-enhancing solution. It's just something that's too easy for conventional
medicine to do. They do hundreds of thousands of these surgeries a year. They don’t consider it a big deal so the patients don’t think it’s a big deal either!
But it really is a big deal. It's sort of like saying, "Well, doctor, my tongue hurts." And the doctor says, "Let's cut out your tongue." In fact, your gall bladder is far more important for digestion than your tongue.
Do everything you can to protect your gall bladder. Along those lines, one of the most important things you need to do is physically
massage your internal organs through body movement. A lot of people are surprised to hear this, but your internal organs need to be massaged just like your muscles and skin.

Xylitol Reduces Tooth Decay & UTI Incidence!

Steven Green, DDS Holistic Dentist answers questions:

Q. If fluoride is poisonous (see below), what will help prevent cavities?
A. Xylitol (birch sugar) reduces cavities much more than fluoride, and it tastes good. This ‘alcohol sugar’ in excess might cause gas or loose bowels, providing a natural control. Two tablespoons of fruits preserved with xylitol daily, or 18 mints, or a couple of teaspoonfuls of the sugar itself reduce tooth decay 30-40%.
Xylitol is now in toothpastes, nasal sprays, chewing gum and chewable vitamin Cs.
A side benefit is a similar reduction in risk to ear, nose and sinus infections, kidney, bladder, and urethral infections, probably even reducing risk to our number one killer, heart and artery disease.

Q. Is fluoride a poison or safe medicine?
A. Fluoride in the toothpaste is perhaps the most common cause of morning nausea. I have had many patients tell me their worst experience at the dentist was the sickness they felt during and after fluoride treatments. The reason more do not die from fluoride is that it is so toxic, when ingested it almost always causes vomiting. Motor dysfunction, IQ deficits, learning disabilities and cancer in humans have been linked to fluoride. (Neurotoxicology and Teratology, Vol. 17, No. 2, 1995.)
Breeders of purebred bulls know that the tiny administration of fluorides makes the bull more submissive and easier to handle. During World War II, both the Germans and the Russians added sodium fluoride to prisoner’s drinking water to subtly poison the mind and reduce the power to resist domination. Magnesium Deficiency? Irritated? Constipated?

From Liz Lipski, author of Digestive Wellness:

One common pattern that I see is that of magnesium deficiency.

If a person is tense and emotionally uptight, I'll ask them questions that investigate this:

  • Are they startled easily,

  • are they sensitive to noise,

  • are they easily irritated, constipated,

  • do their eyelids twitch,

  • do they get muscle cramps?

So I look for patterns that relate to nutrition, and I also look for patterns between systems. For example, if someone has digestive problems, the cause might be in the digestive system or could it be related to stress in other areas of their life, is it childhood abuse, metal toxicity, or a neurotransmitter imbalance?

Benefits Of Fiber

It’s Time for You to Understand the Benefits of Fiber

by Joseph Mercola, see full article and his recommended product at http://www.mercola.com/

Fiber has long been recognized for helping with digestive regularity and occasional constipation, however the advantages of a fiber-rich diet go far beyond these basic benefits.
In fact, diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium seed husk may reduce the risk of heart disease.

....Can contribute to a sense of fullness which may prevent over-eating and help you regulate your weight.

...Can promote the growth of your healthy bacteria and the food they need to thrive, which may help enhance your immune system’s ability to promote good immune health

....Can slow your absorption of sugars, which has the potential to promote healthy blood glucose levels.

...Can add "bulk" to your stool as it supports regularity and elimination.

It doesn’t matter your age – getting the recommended allowance of fiber is an important part of your daily diet.
...The Columbia Institute of Human Nutrition reports that only 10 percent of all Americans get the recommended amount of fiber in their daily diet.

And, what’s worse – the average American only eats about half the recommended fiber they need.
...A 2005 national study revealed that over 50% of Americans think steak is high in fiber – but in reality meat has little or no fiber.

You Need at Least 32 Grams of Fiber Every Day

According to the Annals of Internal Medicine, people on low carb diets typically get only seven to eight grams of fiber daily!

Ideally, your diet will have foods high in soluble and insoluble fiber, including:
dried beans
peas
flax seed
green beans
cauliflower
But, with the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s often difficult to get the optimal amount of fiber you need.

Promotes regularity and growth of your healthy gut bacteria*
Helps with occasional constipation*
Provides heart-healthy soluble fiber

The support for heart health you desire.

Soluble fiber, such as the fiber in Fiber Harmony Organic Psyllium, when included in a low saturated fat and cholesterol diet, has been shown to help lower cholesterol.

In fact, clinical studies have shown that, when taken daily as a part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, 7 grams of soluble fiber from psyllium may help reduce heart disease risk by helping to lower cholesterol – both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels*.

The ‘probiotic difference’ you deserve
There are trillions of microorganisms that live in your digestive system – some are good, but others do not provide any benefit. When it comes to your health and wellbeing, they play an incredibly important role and your fiber intake can make a big difference.* “Beneficial flora” are microorganisms that assist with digestion and absorption of your food, help strengthen your immune system, and contribute to your body’s overall heath and function.*
Since less desirable flora in the gut must compete with the helpful microbes already in residence, daily probiotic use can be an effective measure to help us keep the balance of intestinal flora tipped in favor of beneficial flora.*
Probiotics are foods and supplements that actually contain these living beneficial microbes. Probiotics can help support your body’s natural and healthy flora and support a healthy balance.*
How does all this relate to fiber? Well, it’s simple.
Beneficial bacteria love to feed on fiber.

Whereas, less desirable bacteria like to eat refined sugars and fats

With three quick and easy options, adding fiber to your diet has never been easier.

Take three times a day to add as much as 18 grams of dietary fiber to your diet.

Cod Liver Oil and Vitamin A Toxicity

Info from Raymond Francis: Apart from its value as a source of Omega 3 fatty acids, cod liver oil is taken for its high content of Vitamins A and D.

Dr. Joseph Mercola, proprietor of a well-known health-related website, had always recommended cod liver oil. But recently, he withdrew that recommendation. In doing this, he was largely influenced by a November 2008 review article in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology written by John J. Cannell, head of the Vitamin D Council, and 15 other scientists and Vitamin D researchers.

They claimed that although Vitamin A deficiency is still common in the Third World, it is much less common in countries like ours, where Vitamin D deficiency is a much greater problem. In fact we may be getting too much Vitamin A. Getting too much Vitamin A can interfere with the function of Vitamin D in the body. This is why there is a problem with cod liver oil. Most cod liver oils have far too much A relative to D. For example, most brands have A to D ratios of 10:1, and one Nordic Naturals product has a ratio of up to 2,000:1. The Professional Formula brand sold by Beyond Health has a ratio of up to only 3:1. (Carlson Cod Liver Oil is also a 3:1 Ratio)

Excess Vitamin A is particularly a problem when the A is not natural, but synthetic A (retinol palmitate or retinyl acetate) which is added in to the cod liver oil. It is known that synthetic A is toxic at moderately high doses, whereas it's safe to take ten times as much natural Vitamin A.

Carlson cod Liver oil
Each teaspoonful contains: 1,100 mg to 1,250 mg Omega 3 fatty acids including: DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) 500 mg to 590 mg
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) 360 mg to 500 mg
ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid) 40 mg to 60 mg

News Release - Arlington Heights, IL ---December 10th, 2008---
Carlson Laboratories Responds to Concerns Regarding Vitamin A in Cod Liver Oil: There has been some concern expressed by researchers and others about the usage of Cod Liver Oil due to the possibility of receiving excessive amounts of Vitamin A.
Although some cod liver oil supplements might contain excessive amounts of vitamin A, Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil does not.
Vitamins A & D are widely recognized as essential nutrients in adults and children, and these two vitamins are naturally stored in the livers of fish. Carlson Cod Liver Oil contains 700 IU to 1,200 IU of naturally occurring Vitamin A, which is 14% to 24% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A. The range of 700 IU to 1,200 IU of vitamin A per serving is because of naturally occurring variations.
Timothy Johanek, Educational Coordinator at Carlson Laboratories stated, “Vitamin A toxicity may occur when an excess of vitamin A is consumed in its retinol form (such as from cod liver oil). The current safe upper limit for vitamin A as retinol is 10,000 IU daily. The minimum daily value necessary to ensure optimal health is 5,000 IU. Each teaspoonful serving of Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil provides 700-1,200 IU of vitamin A. This is a mere fraction of the minimum daily requirement for vitamin A, and it is well within the safe upper limit. In fact, a person would have to consume greater than 8-14 servings of Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil liquid daily to possibly exceed the 10,000 IU safe upper limit for vitamin A established by the Institute of Medicine.”

John Carlson, President of Carlson Laboratories stated, “Carlson is very proud of our award winning, high quality Norwegian cod liver oil and fish oil products. Cod Liver Oil is an excellent product, and is important to our health because of the omega-3s and vitamins A and D it naturally provides. In Norway, the health benefits of cod liver oil are so well recognized that it is the only food supplement recommended by the government for its citizens to take throughout their life. Our Norwegian cod liver oil is processed to remove any contaminants, and is guaranteed to be contaminant free.

Prescription Drugs...A Leading Cause of Death

Prescription Drugs Anyone?

by Raymond Francis

Prescription drugs are one of America’s leading causes of disease and death.

The problem with prescription drugs is very simple…they do nothing to cure disease.

All they do is suppress the symptoms of disease by disrupting normal cellular functions. Abnormal cell function is the very definition of disease, and since prescription drugs cause our cells to malfunction, then…

Yes, drugs cause disease, but we obscure this fact by calling these diseases "side effects." Ironically, the "side effects" are often more dangerous than the disease being treated in the first place.

A recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that in one year over two million hospitalized patients suffered serious drug reactions, resulting in 106,000 deaths. Some side effects!

But this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Too many adverse reactions cause public concern and scrutiny, so just imagine a hospital’s incentive to understate them.

Another article in JAMA estimated that only 1 in 20 reactions are reported.

In truth, tens of millions are injured and an estimated 400,000 are killed every year by these dangerous poisons.

Anyone taking a prescription drug will be harmed to some degree by these drug-caused diseases.
Consider that disrupting even one cell function will ultimately have a negative effect on the entire body.

A single prescription drug can disrupt multiple cell functions causing thousands of biochemical changes.

Introducing a second drug can cause tens of thousands of changes, and a third can produce hundreds of thousands.

Since the average patient over 60 is on four drugs, you can begin to comprehend the extent of the biochemical chaos being created.

This is not healthy! Very often a second drug is prescribed to suppress the problems caused by the first, and then a third drug to suppress the symptoms caused by the first two, and so on.

Statistics show that prescriptions for antibiotics are still on the rise, despite medical journals warning doctors to cut down on them.

Excessive antibiotic use has bred "superbugs" that the strongest antibiotics cannot kill.

Right now, there are people sick with infections that are immune to all known antibiotics. Another commonly ignored "side effect" of antibiotics is that they also destroy normal gut flora, leading to maldigestion, malnutrition, and cellular toxicity.

The damage antibiotics can do is scary, often permanent, and getting worse as doctors continue to overprescribe them.
Nobel Prize winning chemist Linus Pauling predicted that the use of toxic chemicals to suppress disease symptoms, which he called a toximolecular approach, was a blind alley that would lead nowhere.

Where it has lead is to a catastrophically expensive and ineffective disease-care system, where people are killed and injured daily, where they remain chronically ill, and where the costs are projected to double in the next ten years.

When someone is sick, they are already in toxic overload. Why compound their problems by giving them more toxins?

Pauling proposed an orthomolecular approach where one provides molecules that are natural and helpful in supporting and restoring normal cell functions, allowing the body to heal and restore itself to health.
If you are now on prescription drugs, recognize that you are choosing to take them, and that there are safer, more natural, and more effective alternatives.

You may want to find yourself another doctor, one practicing orthomolecular or preventive medicine, who will address the causes of your problem and help you get well, rather than prescribing poison to suppress your symptoms.

To make a sick person well, you have give their cells all the things they need to function normally, and keep them away from the things that disrupt normal function.

Prescription drugs disrupt normal cell function.

When cell function is normalized, you cannot be sick.

This is what the orthomolecular approach is all about.

It's using vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and natural remedies to rebalance the body and make it well again.

The obsolete approach of using toxic prescription drugs to suppress symptoms is guaranteed to make and keep people sick—yet pharmaceutical companies grow as sales go up every year.

Go figure!

A Horse is Downstairs Acting Like Jesus - Thanks to Ambien

"Yesterday, after my first night on Lunestra, I complained to my husband about how awful the coffee tasted, sent back my glass of iced tea at a sushi restaurant, and wouldn't touch the yellowtail sushi after one bite.
My husband thought the coffee was great, the tea tasted fine, and he happily ate all my sushi. But after finding this message board, I understand--it was the Lunestra affecting my taste buds.
I tried the full glass of water with the pill last night, but this morning again, horrible coffee and I had to put 3 teaspoons of sugar on my cereal, milk, and fresh peaches to make it edible.
Unlike many here, I am not an insomniac all the time, only when a severe asthma flare-up forces me to take Prednisone, a drug I hate chiefly because of sleeplessness while on it.

The nurse practitioner at my pulmonologist's office suggested I switch from Ambien to Lunestra because, he said, it was a "cleaner" drug, one that didn't interact dangerously with other medications, and one that allowed one to experience all the stages of sleep.

He said that Ambien doesn't allow the REM sleep. I have no idea if he is right about all that, though I do know that on Ambien I don't dream and on Lunestra I do. However, Ambien frightens me, primarily because I witness how weird my husband, a true insomniac, is on his Ambien, which he only takes every other night. He hallucinates right before dropping off to sleep, once even telling me that "A horse is downstairs, acting like Jesus."

Root Canals Can Lead To Heart Disease & Arthritis

(NaturalNews.com)

Is it wise and prudent to have a root canal?

There are issues with root canal therapy that everyone should know before deciding to have one.

There has been recent research that presents valid proof of systemic illnesses that are a direct result from latent infections lingering in filled roots.

These conclusions are based on research performed by Dr. Weston Price over a 25 year period in the beginning of the twentieth century.

The research done by Dr. Weston Price discusses how root canals can cause bacteria to become trapped inside the structure of teeth.

This can be the cause of many diseases that can be traced to one single source.

A high percentage of chronic degenerative diseases may actually originate from root canals. The most common diseases are circulatory and heart disease. The next common diseases are those involving joints and arthritis

Testing Bowel Transit Time with Charcoal

Click below to learn how:

Testing Bowel Transit Time

Bowel Transit Time (webmd)

A bowel transit time test measures how long it takes for food to travel through the digestive tract. After you chew and swallow your food, it moves into your stomach, where it is mixed with acid and digestive enzymes. After your food leaves your stomach, it is squeezed through your small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed for use by your body. The food then goes into your large intestine (colon) where water is absorbed. Whatever hasn't been digested and absorbed by your intestines combines with bacteria and other waste products and becomes stool (feces). Stool is expelled from your body through your anus. The time it takes for food to travel from your mouth through your digestive tract to your anus is your bowel transit time.
Bowel transit time depends on what types of food you eat and how much you drink. For example, people who eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains tend to have shorter transit times than people who eat mostly sugars and starches.

#1 Tool for Improving Health

The Number 1 tool for improving your health is the elimination diet.
Simply eliminating the BIG 5 will change your life and change your health;
1. Sugar
2. Caffeine
3. Alcohol
4. Wheat
5. Dairy

Liz Lipski said, "If there was a drug that could do as many amazing things in 2-3 weeks as an elimination diet, it would be making billions and billions and billions of dollars. For me, as a nutritionist, the #1 clinical and therapeutic tool that I have is an elimination diet."

After the top 5 groups are eliminated then it is time to eliminate corn, soy and peanuts.

So often, after the elimination diet, people will find that their arthritis is gone, their moods are better, their IBS is improved and their energy is better.

Osteoporosis is Big Business

Full article on mercola.com "Hormone Replacement"

...Other non-estrogen drugs which are prescribed to supposedly reduce the chance of osteoporosis, have serious side effects. In his video, Dr. John Lee outlines the dangers of a very popular drug named Fosamax.

It's actually quite simple. Again, living healthy bone must go through a constant process of old cells being replaced by new cells, so that every few years we have an entire new skeleton. Osteoclasts are cells that tear down bone; osteoblasts build new cells in those spaces. Got that? OK. The intellects behind Fosamax have decided that if they can stop the osteoclasts from doing their normal job of tearing down bone, this will prevent osteoporosis.

How?

By the buildup of Fosamax crystals in the bone, which just stay there long after a normal lifespan, which artificially stops the removal system - the osteoclasts. Now there are no spaces in which new bone cells can form. The Fosamax crystals cannot be broken down by the body, and remain in the bone for 15 or 20 years, taking up space, and offering an artificial, plastic-like composition in what should be normal healthy bone.

Dr. Lee tells us that modern Fosamax is 1000 times more potent than the original biphosphonate.

Even the manufacturers caution against indiscriminate long term use of this drug: on p 1657-8 of the 1998 Physicians Desk Reference we find that: "bone formation ... is ultimately reduced ... Fosamax decreases the rate of bone resorption [tearing down] directly, which leads to an indirect decrease in bone formation."

Decreased bone formation? Does that sound like something that's going to maintain normal bone and prevent osteoporosis in your golden years? Dr. Lee and many others don't think so.

The PDR also tells us that they have no idea what effects Fosamax may have after four years! (p1661)

Here we have a prime example of the philosophical difference between allopathic and holistic medicine: they forgot that Mother Nature always bats last. You can't arbitrarily interfere with one half of a complete life process like bone synthesis and expect no adverse consequences.

With Fosamax, we have arrogantly overpowered the body's normal system of bone building which has developed and maintained the skeleton just fine for the person's whole life, by pretending that one phase of that system exists in isolation from the whole rest of the endocrine Internet, and can be omitted with no consequences.

Doctors trick women by telling them that Fosamax will increase "bone mineral density" but what they don't tell them is that the new mineral is not calcium and is no longer part of the living dynamic process which has maintained their bones their entire lives.

This is not yet even mentioning the side effects of Fosamax:

kidney disease

ulcers

heartburn

joint pain

headache

rash

Fosamax is a risky, artificial approach to osteoporosis which pretends like the problem can be divided up into separate, distinct unrelated phases, like with a car. Same old idea, over and over: another drug in search of a market.

Same old story. Osteoporosis is big business. Big business to keep it happening, and big business to treat it. The dairy industry, the meat industry, the soft drink industry all keep it happening. The HRT industry, the nursing home industry, and the hospitals gain from the treatment of osteoporosis. John McDougall explains:

"The diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis is so profitable because millions of people unwittingly weaken their bones, making them dependent for the rest of their life on diagnostic tests and drug therapy that slows the disorder ... but never cures it."
- The McDougall Plan p172

Vitamin D3 Deficiency

Please visit http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ for great information.

Here are bits and pieces:

Vitamin D deficiency often presents with common, non-specific symtoms, such as muscular weakness – predominantly of the proximal limb muscles – a feeling of heaviness in the legs, chronic musculoskeletal pain, fatigue or easy tiring.

Osteomalacia may masquerade as fibromyalgia. Physical examination is usually unremarkable, but may reveal undue pain on sternal or tibial pressure.

Vitamin D3 is one of the most useful nutritional tools we have at our disposal for improving overall health.

This vitamin is unique because cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is a vitamin derived from 7-dehyrocholesterol; however, Vitamin D3 acquires hormone-like actions when cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is converted to 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3 (Calcitriol) by the liver and kidneys.
As a hormone, Calcitriol controls phosphorus, calcium, and bone metabolism and neuromuscular function.

Vitamin D3 is the only vitamin the body can manufacture from sunlight (UVB). Yet, with today’s indoor living and the extensive use of sunscreens due to concern about skin cancer, we are now a society with millions of individuals deficient in life-sustaining bone building and immune modulating 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3.

For more than a century, scientists have recognized that Vitamin D3 is involved in bone health. Research has continued to accumulate, documenting Calcitriol’s role in the reduction of the risk of fractures to a significant degree. The latest research, however, shows that 1,25-dihyroxy Vitamin D3 deficiency is linked to a surprising number of other health conditions such as depression, back pain, cancer, both insulin resistance and pre-eclampsia during pregnancy, impaired immunity and macular degeneration.

The Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) of Vitamin D3 is set so low those mature individuals who consume this small amount (400 to 600 International Unites (I.U.’s)) are still likely to be deficient if they live north of the Tropic of Cancer or south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Musculoskeletal disorders have been linked to Vitamin D3 deficiency in a number of studies.

One of the newest studies explored the role that low Vitamin D3 levels play in the development of chronic low back pain in women.

Sixty female patients in Egypt complaining of low back pain lasting more than three months were studied. Researchers measured levels of Vitamin D3 in the women with low back pain and compared those levels to those of 20 matched healthy controls.
The study revealed that patients with low back pain had significantly lower Vitamin D3 levels than controls. Low Vitamin D3 levels (25 OHD <>One of the best known and long-established benefits of Vitamin D3 is its ability to improve bone health and the health of the musculoskeletal system.

It is well documented that Vitamin D3 deficiency causes osteopenia, precipitates and exacerbates osteoporosis, causes a painful bone disease known as osteomalacia, and exacerbates muscle weakness, which increases the risk of falls and fractures.

Cancer

One researcher first noted the connection between Vitamin D3 and protection from cancer in the 1940s, when he discovered that individuals at sunny latitudes had a reduced rate of deaths from cancer. He suggested that sunlight provided “a relative cancer immunity.”Since then, a number of studies have strongly suggested that

Vitamin D3 deficiency is associated with an increased risk of developing many forms of cancer including breast, ovarian, prostate and colon cancer.10

In one recent clinical trial, researchers studied 1,179 healthy, postmenopausal women (all 55 years or older and free of known cancers for at least 10 years prior to entering the study) who were taking large amounts of Vitamin D3 with calcium. The subjects were randomly assigned to take daily dosages of: (1) 1,400-1,500 mg supplemental calcium, (2) 1,400-1,500 mg supplemental calcium plus 1,100 IU of Vitamin D3, or (3) placebos. Over the four-year trial, women in the calcium/Vitamin D3 group experienced a 60 percent or greater reduced risk of cancer than their peers in the placebo group, who were not consuming these supplements.
Because there was the chance that some women may have had undiagnosed cancers at the study’s start, the researchers threw out the first-year results and then analyzed the results from the last three years of the trial. These later years resulted in even more dramatic decrease, with the calcium/Vitamin D3 group experiencing a 77 percent reduction in cancer risk.
There was no statistically significant difference in cancer incidence between the participants taking placebos and subjects consuming only calcium supplements.11
Another interesting study demonstrated that in vitro Vitamin D3 may cause tumor cells to be more sensitive to chemotherapy drugs, increasing the efficacy of the cancer treatment.12
Conclusion
A growing number of researchers who have widely studied Vitamin D3 are almost begging the general public to consume more of this important nutrient. Due to Vitamin D3’s high safety profile in doses up to 10,000 IU per day and because of the wide role it plays in our health, consuming 2,000 to 4,000 IU per day of this nutrient at times of the year when sunlight is scarce is a prudent way to improve overall health.

VITAMIN D—THE CURE FOR MANY DISEASES?

C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D.

I have been planning for many months to write a commentary on Vitamin D. Recently I had the good fortune to spend a couple of hours with Dr. Joe Prendergast, an endocrinologist /diabetologist.He has managed over 1500 diabetic patients and, in the last decade, not one of his patients has had a stroke or heart attack. Only one has even been hospitalized!
His secret—50,000 units of Vitamin D3 daily. Dr. Joe further reports:
Reversal of advanced coronary disease
Reversal of advanced lung disease, avoiding a lung transplant!
Cure of multiple sclerosis
Cure of amotrophic lateral sclerosis
Regression of rheumatoid arthritis
Improvement in allergies
Control of many cancers including prostate, breast, colon, brain tumors, leukemia, myeloma, etc
Reversal of osteoporosis
Prevention of influenza
Cure of depression and many other mental disorders
Hashimoto’s hyperthyroidism
Dr. Prendergast warns that patients taking 50,000 units of vitamin D3 SHOULD NOT TAKE ANY CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS! It is fine to have some milk products and the small dose of calcium in most multivitamins (400 mg) will not be a problem. Since most adults seem to have deposits of calcium outside bones, in arteries, around joints, etc, perhaps the vitamin D assists in retrieving calcium from these undesirable deposits! Study Shows Resveratrol is a Key Agent in Breast Cancer Prevention

Researchers identify cancer preventive properties in common vitamin supplement

Published: Monday, July 7, 2008 - 02:07 in Health & Medicine

Early laboratory research has shown that resveratrol, a common dietary supplement, suppresses the abnormal cell formation that leads to most types of breast cancer, suggesting a potential role for the agent in breast cancer prevention.

Resveratrol is a natural substance found in red wine and red grapes.

It is sold in extract form as a dietary supplement at most major drug stores.

"Resveratrol has the ability to prevent the first step that occurs when estrogen starts the process that leads to cancer by blocking the formation of the estrogen DNA adducts. We believe that this could stop the whole progression that leads to breast cancer down the road," said Eleanor G. Rogan, Ph.D., a professor in the Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Rogan was the lead author of the report that was published in the July 2008 issue of Cancer Prevention Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
For the current study, Rogan and colleagues measured the effect of resveratrol on cellular functions known to contribute to breast cancer.

The formation of breast cancer is a multi-step process which differs depending on type of disease, a patient's genetic makeup and other factors. However, scientists know that many breast cancers are fueled by increased estrogen, which collects and reacts with DNA molecules to form adducts. Rogan and colleagues found that resveratrol was able to suppress the formation of these DNA adducts.
"This is dramatic because it was able to be done with fairly low concentrations of resveratrol to stop the formation of these DNA adducts in the cells we studied," said Rogan. Although researchers experimented with up to 100 µmol/L of resveratrol, the suppression of DNA adducts was seen with 10 µmol/L. A glass of red wine contains between 9 and 28 µmol/L of resveratrol.
The researchers also found that resveratrol suppressed the expression of CYP1B1 and the formation of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, two known risk factors for breast cancer.
Rogan said resveratrol works by inducing an enzyme called quinone reductase, which reduces the estrogen metabolite back to inactive form. By making estrogen inactive, resveratrol decreases the associated risk.
The current study was conducted in laboratory cultures, and will need to be confirmed in larger human trials, Rogan said.

Major Cancer Advancements

from http://www.mercola.com/

Major Cancer Advancement #1: Vitamin D
If people around the world optimized their vitamin D levels, about 30 percent of cancer deaths -- which amounts to 2 million worldwide and 200,000 in the United States -- could be prevented each year.
On a personal level, you can decrease your risk of cancer by MORE THAN HALF simply by optimizing your vitamin D levels with sun exposure. If you are treating cancer it is likely that higher blood levels would be even more beneficial, probably on the order of 80-90 ng/ml.
The notion that sun exposure actually prevents cancer may still be a new one for some of you, so I highly recommend you watch my one-hour vitamin D lecture to clear up any confusion.
The risk of skin cancer from the sun comes only from excessive exposure. Meanwhile, countless people around the world have an increased risk of cancer because their vitamin D levels are low or deficient. In the United States, the late winter average vitamin D is only about 15-18 ng/ml, which is considered a very serious deficiency state.
Meanwhile, it’s thought that over 95 percent of U.S. senior citizens may be deficient, along with 85 percent of the American public.Optimizing your levels, either by safe sun exposure (ideally), a safe tanning bed or oral supplementation, is so important, as vitamin D has a protective effect against cancer in several ways, including:
• Increasing the self-destruction of mutated cells (which, if allowed to replicate, could lead to cancer)
• Reducing the spread and reproduction of cancer cells
• Causing cells to become differentiated (cancer cells often lack differentiation)
• Reducing the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, which is a step in the transition of dormant tumors turning cancerous
Again, to find out the details on how to use vitamin D therapeutically, and doses to take if you have cancer, please watch my very important one-hour lecture.
Major Cancer Advancement #2: Optimizing Your Insulin Levels
Otto Warburg actually received a Nobel Prize for his observation of cancer cell physiology in 1934 that clearly demonstrated cancer cells require more sugar to thrive. Unfortunately, virtually no oncologists appreciate or apply this knowledge.Normalizing your insulin levels is one of the most powerful physical actions you can take to lower your risk of cancer.
Unfortunately, many of us have insulin levels that are too high, a condition that can cause major damage to your body. Your pancreas releases insulin -- produced by beta cells -- after you eat carbohydrates, and this is why numerous studies have linked refined carbohydrates with cancer. Over time, if you eat too many grains and sugars, and your body is constantly releasing an abundance of insulin, your body will become resistant to it.
This means you will require even more insulin to produce the same effects, and it starts you on a vicious cycle. High levels of insulin can cause major damage to your body.
The most recognized of these is diabetes, but that is far from the only one. As Ron Rosedale, M.D. said in one of my most popular articles, Insulin and Its Metabolic Effects:
“It doesn‘t matter what disease you are talking about, whether you are talking about a common cold or cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis or cancer, the root is always going to be at the molecular and cellular level, and I will tell you that insulin is going to have its hand in it, if not totally control it.”The good news is that controlling your insulin levels is relatively straightforward.
First, limit your intake of processed foods, grains and sugars as much as possible to prevent your insulin levels from becoming elevated in the first place.
Next, exercise regularly, as this will drive your insulin levels down.
Major Cancer Advancement #3: Thermography
Most physicians continue to recommend mammograms for women as a breast cancer screening tool, but I encourage you to think for yourself and consider safer, more effective alternatives to mammograms.
The option for breast screening that I most highly recommend is called thermographic breast screening.
Thermographic screening is brilliantly simple. It measures the radiation of infrared heat from your body and translates this information into anatomical images. Your normal blood circulation is under the control of your autonomic nervous system, which governs your body functions.
Thermography uses no mechanical pressure or ionizing radiation, and can detect signs of breast cancer as much as 10 years earlier than either mammography or a physical exam! Whereas mammography cannot detect a tumor until after it has been growing for years and reaches a certain size, thermography is able to detect the possibility of breast cancer much earlier.
It can even detect the potential for cancer before any tumors have formed because it can image the early stages of angiogenesis -- the formation of a direct supply of blood to cancer cells, which is a necessary step before they can grow into tumors of size.
More men’s lives could also be spared from the disease as mammography is not frequently used on men, which leads to most men with breast cancer being diagnosed at a very late stage.
To find out more about this safe and highly effective method of cancer detection, you can read my free report on the topic or visit my Thermography Diagnostics Center now.

How to Finally Win the War Against Cancer
When you open your mind to the world of treatment and prevention strategies available outside the bounds of conventional medicine, you find that many options exist right now to help you prevent and treat this “incurable” disease.
Treatments from doctors like Ryke Geerd Hamer have achieved a 95 percent success rate in overcoming cancer -- all by helping people to heal their emotional traumas.
A landmark study has even suggested recently that some cancers may just go away on their own, without any treatment at all. And there is a lot that you can do right now to significantly impact your cancer risk.
Even the conservative American Cancer Society states that one-third of cancer deaths are linked to poor diet, physical inactivity, and carrying excess weight.

So making healthy lifestyle changes is one of the most important ways to protect yourself from cancer.
I’ve detailed my comprehensive list of what you can do, right now, to virtually eliminate your cancer risk many times before, but for those of you who haven’t seen it, the entire list is printed at the end of this past article.
