How to Stay Healthy and Deal With The Common Cold

At the first hint of a possible cold we hit it hard with Vitamin C and other critical supplements. We eat whole food and green-fed beef and that helps too. The end result is that we have managed to all stay well! The girls rarely miss a day of school due to illness, so I let them take a "mental health" day once a year, since all the other kids get to miss school all the time!

Many people have asked us what we are doing... here's the re-cap and some suggestions about what to buy. Don't buy cheap supplements at the drug store - they won't work and you'll waste your money. The only good supplement I buy at Wal-Mart is Oscillococcinum (see below) - the rest comes from the health food store if you are in a hurry, or - to save money- from a few internet sources like Vitacast and Wellness Resources.

Building immunity:
First of all, try to get off of sugar and eat more fruits and vegetables. Drink water! (At least half your body weight in ounces = if you weigh 160, drink 80 oz.)

Sickness Is a Slow Descent from Health,

Every day our bodies are bombarded with food additives, chemicals, and a plethora of other substances that degrade health.

No wonder that eventually something breaks down, just like a car running on dirty fluids and filters, and the wrong kind of oil and gasoline.

You may not realize how much the world throws at your body. Let's take a look at an average day:

Fred wakes up having slept on a mattress manufactured with flame retardants (polybrominated diphenyl ethers). Laboratory studies have linked these chemicals to behavioral changes that bear an uncanny similarity to attention-deficit and hyperactivity disorders so common in children. New research has found that flame retardants have the ability to mimic thyroid hormones. It is thought that by acting hormonally, the chemicals wreak havoc in laboratory animals, where exposures have been linked to hyperactivity, impaired learning, and decreased sperm counts.1

He then brushes his teeth with fluoride, never noticing that his tube of toothpaste bears a warning from the FDA that he should not swallow the toothpaste and to call the poison center if he does. Modern studies link fluoride to arthritis, allergies, kidney and thyroid dysfunction, bone damage, and cancer even at the low levels dentist claim is optimal to reduce tooth decay.2 As he brushed his teeth his silver amalgams (mercury) fillings release a little mercury vapor as they do every time he brushes. He is unaware that in 1991 the World Health Organization acknowledged that, in developed countries, the predominant source of human exposure to mercury is fillings.3

Fred showers in chlorinated water where he absorbs more chlorine through his skin than if he were to drink 8 glasses of tap water. According to the US Council on environmental quality, cancer risks among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than amounts of those whose water does not contain chlorine.4 Joseph M Price, MD, warned that chlorine is the greatest crippler and killer of modern times. It is an insidious poison.5

He washes his hair unaware that up to 93% of shampoos contain harmful chemicals that have been linked to cancer, and 76% of conditioners contain chemicals that are allergenic. "Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are found in some shampoos and conditioners may cause hair loss and scalp irritation.6

Fred puts on clothes washed with fabric softener that emits a "springtime fresh" smell. Fabric softeners contain chemicals like chloroform, benzyl acetate, and pentane that are known to damage lungs, brain, and nerves, and cause cancer. About 95% of the chemicals used in fragrances are made from petroleum products. Many are known to cause cancer, birth defects, and damage to lungs, brain, and nerves.

Fred eats eggs for breakfast. The eggs came from "factory chickens" which never saw the light of day and were fed a grain-soy-based feed laced with hormones and antibiotics. He washes down his breakfast with coffee mixed with a powdered cream concoction of hydrogenated oils which cause heart disease, nutritional deficiencies, cellular deterioration, and much more.

Fred is proud of his new car. As he inserts the key, he breathes in that new car smell. He doesn't know that what he is really filling his lungs with is a toxic brew of fumes from adhesives, sealers, carpeting, lubricants, and phthalates (plastic softeners) with chemical names like ethyl benzene, zylene, formaldehyde, and toluene.

Later at the office, Fred reaches for a diet soda and a "health bar" from the vending machine. The soda contains aspartame, a chemical sweetener which is the source of more FDA complaints than any other food additive. In the body, it converts to formaldehyde, which has been shown to cause cancer in animals and is listed by the EPA as a probable human carcinogen.7 Aspartame is an excitotoxin which harms nerve cells by over-exciting them to the point of cell death. The "health bar" is high in sugar and other carbs and contains the excitotoxins MSG hidden in safe sounding ingredients like yeast extract.

Fred goes to the restroom where there is a chemical air freshener. It contains benzene, a carcinogen that's been linked to leukemia. It also contains xylene, a toxic petroleum byproduct that has been associated with headaches and cognitive impairment. He washes his hands with antibacterial soap containing triclosan which promotes the emergence of bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. TV ads have made him afraid of germs; he is unaware that even the American Medical Association and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advise against non-clinical use of antibacterial soaps because they may increase antibiotic resistance and they do not clean any better than ordinary soap.8 Fred returns to his office which emits formaldehyde from particle board cabinets and from insulation between the walls.

Every day Fred's body works at detoxifying these kinds of insults. It uses glutathione, folic acid, methyl groups, sulfate groups, liver enzymes, and other cellular machinery. Some detoxifiers are actually nutrients that we take in with food - if we are eating a nutrient-dense-diet. However, the Standard American Diet (SAD) of pizza, burgers, French fries, and soda is not nutrient dense. Eventually the body runs low on detoxifying agents which results in the proliferation of free radicals. Free radicals damage cell membranes and eventually cellular DNA. The stage is then set for chronic disease and cancer. If the detoxification systems are compromised, it is virtually impossible to restore normal metabolic function unless we first remove the toxins. Heavy metals and other environmental toxins stored in the body fuel low-level, constant inflammation, which is the root cause of much of the chronic illness we see today. Healing can only take place if the body burden is lessened.

Given our harmful diet and the ever increasing barrage of toxins, these statistics may only be the beginning of a worsening trend.

Natural Help for Sinus Infections

Research is now showing that today's "baby boomers", the generation currently eclipsing age 60, is the first generation to be less healthy than the generation before them.

A common theme that emerged from the research is that technological advancements have played a significant role in creating poor health.

The lack of effective exercise was emphasized by a 50 percent increase over the last ten years in people in their 60s having trouble performing simple activities such as walking a quarter-mile or climbing a small set of stairs.

There was also a 40 percent increase in study subjects having trouble bending their knees to crouch, kneel, or get up from a chair.

Nama Shoyu, Tamari, Bragg's Liquid Aminos, Soy Sauce????




Regular Soy Sauce - chemicals, salt, wheat, pasturized - AVOID!



Many cheaper brands of soy sauces are made from hydrolyzed soy
protein
instead of brewed from natural bacterial and fungal cultures. These
soy sauces do not have the natural color of authentic soy sauces and are
typically colored with
caramel coloring, and
are popular in Southeast Asia and China, and are exported to Asian markets
around the globe.
They are derogatorily called Chemical Soy Sauce ("化學醬油" in
Chinese), but despite this name are the most widely used type because they are
cheap. Similar products are also sold as "liquid aminos" in the US and

Nama Shoyu: Raw, unpasturized soy. Naturally fermented. (Nama means "raw", Shoyu means "soy") Most are wheat-containing.

Tamari: Naturally fermented. Can be purchased as wheat-free or wheat-containing. Dark brown in color, thicker than regular soy sauce. San J Tamari is wheat free.

Bragg's Liquid Aminos: Unfermented. Wheat free. Hydrolyzed, produces naturally occuring glutamic acid which effects the body like MSG. Although the Bragg website says the product is not heated, some believe that it is heat processed and treated with hydrochloric acid. - Not on the short list!

After reading the speculations about Bragg Liquid Aminos posted on this forum and hearing horror stories from others (my sister talked with a man who said he quit using it because it gave him nightmares) I decided to just jump right out and ask the Bragg company themselves.
Decide for yourself if you feel like using it.


1. Is hydrochloric acid used at any time in the production of Bragg Liquid Aminos? I have been told that it is used to separate the aminos from the soybeans (like isolated soy protein) and gives it the salty flavor.
Yes, our product is hydrolized in the process.
2. Are you aware of the dangerous effects of glutamic acid within the human body? Do you plan on taking measures to remove glutamic acid from Bragg Liquid Aminos?
The glutamic acid is naturally occurring and cannot be isolated to remove it as an individual amino acid. In our laboratory results analyses show that the Liquid Aminos contain no monosodium glutamate.
3. If BLA is neither heat processed nor fermented, could you please explain why it does not turn rancid at room temperature as opposed to requiring refrigeration?
Our liquid aminos does go rancid if kept out of the cupboard or out of the refrigerator. We suggest storing in a cupboard or the refrigerator. It is the same reason ketchup or soy sauce, or jam, or peanut butter do not go bad if kept in the cupboard. Eventually they will all go bad.

Cancer, which surpassed heart disease as the number one killer in America in 2005, is still considered “a mystery” in conventional medicine. In fact, the term “cancer” is just a generic term that in no way describes its cause.


In this video, Doug Kaufman – a longtime proponent of the influence of fungi in human disease -- interviews the Italian oncologist Dr. Tullio Simoncini -- author of Cancer is a Fungus -- who shares fascinating new information about what he believes is the root of all cancers: fungi, and discusses a radically different path for curing cancer; sometimes in as little as a few days.
Conventional Cancer Treatments – Ineffective and Dangerous “Cures”
Currently, if you are diagnosed with cancer, especially in the U.S., you are given three options:
Surgery
Chemotherapy
Radiation
However, as mentioned in this video, finding actual statistics on the effectiveness of these treatments is very difficult. You’d think if something is the best medicine has to offer, they’d be more than happy to share their level of success.
Most people are given a 50/50 chance of dying from cancer, in general. And conventional treatments are touted as your best shot at surviving.
But is it true?
According to Dr. Simoncini’s website, polls and questionnaires show that a full 75 percent of doctors say they’d refuse chemotherapy if they were struck with cancer due to its ineffectiveness and its devastating side effects.
Many doctors have spoken out about it, yet their voices are still ignored. For example, Dr. Allen Levin, MD, author of The Healing of Cancer, has said, “The majority of the cancer patients in this country die because of chemotherapy, which does not cure breast, colon or lung cancer. This has been documented for over a decade and nevertheless doctors still utilize chemotherapy to fight these tumors.”
Professor Gorge Mathe similarly stated, “If I were to contract cancer, I would never turn to a certain standard for the therapy of this disease. Cancer patients who stay away from these centers have some chance to make it.”
So, how effective is chemotherapy?
There is at least one study that I know of that addresses this very question. Published in the journal Clinical Oncology in December 2004, the results of this study were astounding, showing that chemotherapy has an average 5-year survival success rate of just over 2 percent for all cancers!
In the U.S., chemo was most successful in treating testicular cancer and Hodgkin’s disease, where its success rate fell just below 38 percent and slightly over 40 percent respectively.
Still well below the 50/50 mark…
A review of chemo on 5-year survival rates in Australia garnered almost identical results, with a 2.3 percent success rate, compared to the U.S. 2.1 percent rate of success.
And yet this is the best that conventional medicine has up its sleeve for treating this widespread killer.
What Causes Cancer?
Conventional medicine likes to focus on the impact of genetics as a causative agent in developing cancer, despite the fact that research indicates that genetics is not the main cause of this widespread phenomenon, even though it may play a small role in some people. Unfortunately, little attention is paid to the impact of plain and simple infections.

Dr. Simoncini’s research has led him to believe that something as simple as a fungus, Candida, is the leading cause of cancer; that cancer itself is in fact a fungus. What we refer to as a tumor, is nothing more than your body’s attempt at protecting itself from that fungus.
He brings up an analogy between psoriasis – an “incurable” disease of the skin that many treat as a fungus – and tumors, which are also an “incurable” disease of your body. Several studies have linked the presence of Candida with cancer, showing that anywhere between 79 to 97 percent of all cancer patients also have Candida.

Dr. Simoncini’s explanation for how this phenomenon works – how Candida leads to deadly cancer – is that it’s a consequence of the weakening and exhaustion of your organs, and eventually your entire body, in the following stages:
Candida roots itself in your deep connective tissue in various organs
As a result, this evokes an organic defensive reaction as the connective tissue of your invaded organ attempts to encyst the fungin colonies through cellular hyper-production, which results in the formation of tumors
Growths continue as the fungi spreads, both in your surrounding tissue, and remotely (aka “metastatis”). It is still always the same Candida attacking different tissues, but due to its highly adaptive qualities it is able to mutate to adapt itself to whatever environment it finds itself in, hence the various types of tumors
Your body becomes progressively more exhausted, which allows the fungi to spread and take over more rapidly
You die from “cancer”
If Cancer is a Fungus, Then What is the Cure?
In the video, Dr. Simoncini shows actual before-and-after footage of both bronchial cancer and colon cancer. Four days after his revolutionary and mind-blowingly simple treatment for bronchial cancer with a sodium bicarbonate and water flush, the tumors are gone…
Sodium bicarbonate, a.k.a baking soda, is the most potent anti-fungal substance there is.

The problem with anti-fungal drugs, however, is that fungi are extremely adaptive, and can adapt to a new environment in three to four days. This renders anti-fungal drugs largely ineffective. The fungi do not adapt to the baking soda, but it is far more difficult to use as it needs to be injected directly into the tumor; swallowing the baking soda would not work at all.
Candida yeast is not “one shared element,” so to speak, but rather “social elements,” or colonies, that are highly communicative.
Because of their unique adaptation skills, sodium bicarbonate must be administered directly onto the tumor, and in so doing changing its ph very quickly, from acid to alkaline, which quickly and effectively kills off the yeast before it has time to adapt.
For example, Dr. Simoncini’s experience has shown that 99 percent of breast- and bladder cancer can heal in just six days, entirely without the use of surgery, chemo or radiation, using just a local infiltration device (such as a catheter) to deliver the sodium bicarbonate directly to the infected site in your breast tissue or bladder.
Why the Baking Soda Cancer Cure is Not Available Everywhere
Unfortunately, Dr. Simoncini is yet another brilliant doctor who has been ousted from the medical community due to his revolutionary simple ideas of how to cure profit-making diseases.
So many people refuse to believe that this is true and that it’s happening to good doctors, since “everyone knows” you must be a liability to human life if you’re stripped of your medical license.
But the reason why Dr. Simoncini was kicked out is because as an oncologist – a cancer specialist -- he refused to use conventional cancer treatment methods, choosing instead to administer sodium bicarbonate, which is HARMLESS, as opposed to the often lethal use of chemotherapy.
His lawyers have recently started a rehabilitation court trial at the International Court of Justice in Strassburg to have him reinstated.
Preventive Measures – Combating Candida
If the cause of cancer is the Candida fungus, then what is the root cause of the fungi? And how can you tell you might have too much yeast in your body, which might eventually lead to the formation of cancer?
A good sign that Candida is on the loose is feeling “run down” and developing a craving for sugars and carbohydrates, as this is the main fuel for the growing amounts of yeast in your intestine. The more sugar and grains you eat, the more the yeast grows out of control. Eventually, this will weaken your immune system, which in turn can allow it to infiltrate various other organs. This imbalance in intestinal flora, sometimes called dysbiosis, can also lead to other more common, and less lethal, health problems, such as:
Vaginitis
Irritable bowel syndrome
Weight gain
Food allergies
Migraines

Depression

Day 1 -- Take six doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water, at about two hour intervals

Day 3 -- Take two doses of ½ teaspoon of baking soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter ½ teaspoon in glass of cool water each morning until cold symptoms are gone

My cholesterol is high - What to do??

Compare to the list of symptoms related to celiac disease or gluten intolerance, and it is astonishing.
Also astonishing is the fact that people diagnosed with Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue aren’t immediately tested for celiac and, EVEN IF THE TEST IS NEGATIVE, put on a gluten-free diet.

I know someone with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

This study is of paramount interest, as it supports, albeit indirectly, one of
the prevailing theories concerning the unquestionable
rise in the
prevalence of celiac disease, as well as of other autoimmune conditions,
in developing countries:

the so-called hygiene hypothesis.

Our society has become “too clean”, and infants are not exposed to the massive load of antigens (mostly from bacteria) that would have otherwise presented to their gastrointestinal tract.

This in turn results in a lack of proper stimuli for the developing gut immune system, that therefore is skewed toward reacting with abnormal immune processes when presented with alimentary antigens, creating the conditions for the development of both allergic and autoimmune disorders.
