True or False - All Calories are Equal by Erin Chamerlik

True or False - All Calories are Equal

Save our Country: Send Your Doritos Money to Washington!

I have an idea, Mr. President.

I understand that the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Healthcare package will cost about $940 billion over 10 years, or $94 billion a year.

If Americans stopped eating Doritos for 10 years we could contribute $13 billion to this plan.

That’s right, Doritos earned $1.3 billion in retail sales in one year (1993), one-third of the total Frito-Lay sales for the year.

This is just one of the many interesting facts I learned about Doritos today as I contemplated the topic of counting calories.

I was recently asked if I know how many calories are in an apple. No. Piece of bread? No. Bowl of popcorn. Negative.

The only calorie count I know is that 1 cup of spinach has 7 calories. Seven!

Even I know that is a good deal. You have heard that it doesn’t matter what you eat or when you eat it, a calorie is a calorie. Calories are offset with exercise. End of story. Or is it?

Clearly, comparing equal calories of spinach to Doritos shows how ludicrous it is to say that 7 calories of spinach is the same as 7 calories of Doritos. Spinach is a nutrient dense food. 7 calories of spinach will provide a cup of food that could even be called “lunch” and spinach gives your body many nourishing vitamins and minerals. Spinach contributes to your health. You burn more calories digesting a cup of spinach than contained in the vegetable, so CHA CHING – negative calories!

If you want to eat 7 calories of Doritos, take ONE chip and break it in half. There you go, 7 calories. Yum. (No, no, I’m full…you can have the other half of my ONE Dorito chip).

A Dorito is bursting with stuff – well not exactly vitamins and minerals but really interesting chemicals cooked up in a lab. There are no detectable levels of vitamins or minerals in ½ a chip. But it does have plenty of fat, sodium, food dyes (yellow 6, yellow 5, red 40), sugar, trans fats (“partially hydrogenated oil), MSG (Monosodium glutamate and “artificial flavor”), and inflammatory omega 6 oils (corn, soy and/or sunflower oil, cottonseed oil).

Listen, the government tells us that 67% of Americans are overweight or obese, so it is safe to say that most of us need to make some changes in the way we eat and live.

Most of the diseases that Americans will battle are a result of years and years of food abuse. Everybody will pay eventually for the food choices that are made.

Even skinny people who seem to be able to eat Big Macs and Snicker bars without gaining an ounce.

Russell Blaylock, MD says

“Virtually every disease suffered by humans is either caused by or worsened by poor nutrition.”

Good health and permanent weight loss can be yours when you decide to eat for health.

Most people who decide to eat more whole, nutritious foods are surprised

• how much better they feel,

• how much more energy they enjoy, and

• how much clearer their thinking becomes.

• Aches and pains can slip away along with the unwanted weight.

Diet's Don't Work but This Will by Erin Chamerlik

Diets don’t work for permanent weight loss
One simple thing that will work!

by Erin Chamerlik, The Real Food Revivalist
http://www.GetBetterWellness.com

Let’s start with one simple thing to incorporate into your day that will work.
This is a great way to begin to build a foundation of new beneficial habits.

This tip is going to help you do what you know you are supposed to do, eat more vegetables.

First, here is some foundational information about vegetables:
6 servings of vegetables a day would be a good place to start. Choose a variety of fresh and cooked vegetables. No, tortillas and French fries don’t count. Corn is a grain and white potatoes aren’t giving you the nutrients that other vegetables provide.

Try asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, cilantro, endive, Romaine lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, bok choy, cabbage, radishes, celery, tomatoes, artichoke, carrots, okra, turnips, onions, leeks and shallots.

Work a few vegetables in throughout the day.
Saute some veggies for breakfast and serve with eggs. Make a huge salad. Steam a variety of vegetables for dinner. Eat more raw spinach and dark green leafy vegetables!

The most delicious way to eat raw spinach is to add it to a fruit smoothie to make a GREEN smoothie!
You won’t even taste the difference.
Use a blender and add a cup or two of water, rice milk or almond milk.
Add fresh or frozen strawberries or blueberries, and a handful of spinach.
Start with a 1:1 ratio of fruit to leafy greens, like spinach.

Yes, it will be a funny color, but the taste is amazing and it packs a nutritional punch!

As you drink these smoothies for a few days, switch things up.
Begin to toss in other veggies like a raw carrot, a little parsley, a stalk of celery.
Add avocado for a creamy texture.
Try different fruit and vegetable combinations.
You can even up the protein by adding a spoonful of nut butter or protein powder (I like Jay Robb, Wellness Resources, Perque and Sun Warrior protein powders).
Adding nutritional powerhouses like Nutrex Hawaii Spirulina and Bragg's Nutritional Yeast will greatly increase the protein, vitamin and mineral content.
I even add 2 tsp of Carlson's Cod Liver Oil to my batch of green smoothie.

Here are more whole food smoothie ideas from my Raw Food Blog

Are You Reacting to Artificial Sweeteners?

by Erin Chamerlik, Holistic Nutrition Educator

Confessions of a soft drink addict - A Sad Tale about Diet Coke

Any person suffering from any chronic condition should rule out the possibility that they are reacting to one or more types of food, including artificial sweeteners.

God has created our bodies to be self-healing when we give them the right food. What is the right food? It is whole food, the way it was created -- meat, fish, poultry, eggs, vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, whole grains (not the same thing as bakery goods made with processed whole grains!) and healthy fat including butter, olive oil and coconut oil.

Let go of bread, crackers, pasta, cookies, chips, sweets, soda, juice, and Splenda! Get in the habit of eating real food for breakfast lunch
and dinner.

Real food for real life.
Here's my answer to the NIH
Go throw some organic chicken on the grill, leave the skin on and slather the chicken with this homemade Gluten-Free BBQ sauce.

We will leave the crackers, pasta and white rice to the folks at the NIH.

Splenda is NOT natural by Erin Chamerlik

by Erin Chamerlik, Holistic Nutrition Educator

Splenda?? Oh, you mean 1,6-Dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-β-D-fructofuranosyl-4-chloro-4-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside

(Today, I want to focus on the new evil, Splenda. Please, let your brain

cells come out to play for awhile to absorb the next few paragraphs. Next time you’ll be ready when the slick Splenda/Sucralose marketing team comes calling.)

No, Splenda is NOT natural even though it all started with an “innocent” molecule of sugar.

The Sucralose website doesn’t even claim that it is natural:

“Sucralose is not a natural product – it is not found in nature. Although sucralose is made from sugar, the sugar molecule is chemically modified to make sucralose which is classed as an artificial sweetener.”

The real name for Splenda is

1,6-Dichloro-1,6-dideoxy-β-D-fructofuranosyl-4-chloro-4-deoxy-α-D-galactopyranoside

Let that name roll off your tongue a few times as you ponder this question: Do you really think that the human body was created to metabolize this?

Do you really think the cells of your body magically disregard this molecule and that it is harmlessly whisked out of the body with nary a calorie?

It is 600 times sweeter than sugar and it is going to cause problems. Your brain is very smart, when the tongue tastes 'sweet' it gears up to deal with sweet.

How natural does this seem to you?

Dr. Janet Starr Hull outlines the process for making Splenda below. I don’t think you are interested in knowing this, but I have to share it for the shock value….and they call this GRAS (generally recognized as safe)?

“According to the Splenda International Patent A23L001-236 and PEP Review #90-1-4 (July 1991), sucralose is synthesized by a five-step process. To illustrate the alarming “chemical soup” required to create sucralose, I have listed the chemicals used to produce this sweetener and to secure the chlorine does NOT digest in your body.

Ingredients:

1. Acetone
2. Acetic acid
3. Acetyl alcohol
4. Acetic anhydride
5. Ammonium chloride
6. Benzene
7. Chlorinated sulfates
8. Ethyl alcohol
9. Isobutyl ketones
10. Formaldehyde
11. Hydrogen chloride
12. Lithium chloride
13. Methanol
14. Sodium methoxide
15. Sulfuryl chloride
16. Trityl chloride
17. Toluene
18. Thionyl chloride

Recipe for Splenda:

1. Sucrose is tritylated with trityl chloride in the presence of dimethylformamide and 4-methylmorpholine, and the tritylated sucrose is then acetylated with acetic anhydride.

2. The resulting sucrose molecule TRISPA is chlorinated with hydrogen chlorine in the presence of tolulene.

3. The resulting 4-PAS is heated in the presence of methyl isobutyl ketone and acetic acid.

4. The resulting 6-PAS is chlorinated with thionyl chloride in the presence of toluene and benzyltriethylammonium chloride.

5. The resulting TOSPA is treated with methanol in the presence of sodium methoxide to produce sucralose.

Sucralose is the active ingredient in Splenda, but Splenda has other ingredients. Splenda can contain dextrose and/or maltodextrin (for bulk) and sucralose. Splenda has carbs and calories. One half cup = 12 grams carb = 48 calories. Not alot of calories for a tsp or two, but is not the calories that should worry you.

Dr. Joseph Mercola has a book called Sweet Deception- Why Splenda, NutraSweet, and the FDA May Be Hazardous to Your Health. If you like artificial sweeteners, pick up a copy of this book soon. It is hard to overlook the laundry list of symptoms that people experience with Splenda.

  • Anxiety,
  • GI problems,
  • acid reflux,
  • hair loss,
  • weight gain and
  • loss of libido among other things.

Weight gain? A Purdue study showed that rats fed artificial sweeteners craved more calories than rats that didn’t get the artificial sweeteners.

Be an educated consumer. Just because the FDA says it is safe does not mean that it is safe.

Aspartame is Formaldehyde in You by Erin Chamerlik

by Erin Chamerlik, Holistic Nutrition Educator

You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

When it comes to artificial sweeteners, Splenda has risen to the #1 spot in a short amount of time. Americans were looking for a new sweet savior as the truth about NutraSweet began to leak. We realized that once again we had been duped into thinking that we could have our cake and eat it too.

NutraSweet, or Aspartame, as it turns out has a very dark side. In your body this product of science breaks down into methanol which turns into formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde is great for pickling frogs for science class, but not so great inside you. It is a known carcinogen.

Aspartame is a neurotoxin and causes more than chronic headaches. It is linked to brain cancer, seizures, vision impairment and neurological diseases. Dr. Russell Blaylock, neurosurgeon and author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills, says neurotoxins contribute to Parkinson’s disease. I could go on and on with more ways that artificial sweeteners are messing with your brain, but let me just say that some of you are probably enjoying your Aspartame-sweetened yogurt or soda without realizing the toxic chemical soup that you are ingesting.

What about Splenda? Isn't it supposed to be the "safe" artificial sweetener? Read my next post.

How to Lose 80 Pounds and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes by Erin Chamerlik

by Erin Chamerlik, Health & Nutrition Educator

FEATURED

How to Lose 80 Pounds and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

How did Drew Carey lose 80 pounds? He quit drinking everything except water and he started eating real food. No more soda, juice, bread, crackers, cookies and other refined and processed carbs.

More importantly, Drew Carey reversed Type 2 Diabetes.

“I’m not diabetic anymore. No medication needed, ” he told People magazine.

If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or have prediabetes you are in a growing club. 23,600,000 Americans have the disease and another 57,000,000 are not far behind with prediabetes. You could be one of them. About 25% of people walking around with diabetes haven’t been diagnosed yet. If you are drinking soda, eating a lot of refined flour products, enjoying too many chips and too much alcohol, then you may be setting yourself up for type 2 diabetes. Mostly, it is a disease of the fork and knife and you don’t have to get it.

Type 2 Diabetes is preventable and it is reversible.

Why aren’t we hearing this shouted from the rooftops? I suspect that the diabetes industry would do everything to refute my statement, there is alot of money in the diabetes business.

Regular folks are reversing diabetes with simple measures -- lifestyle changes --- food and exercise.

If you look to the government for answers, then my advice is to do the opposite of what they tell you regarding diet. For example, on the NIH website there is a publication to educate Americans about how to prevent diabetes. Unfortunately, their information is dead wrong.

Here’s one example from the publication,

“Eat at least 3 ounces of whole-grain cereals, breads, crackers, rice, or pasta every day. One ounce is about 1 slice of bread, 1 cup of breakfast cereal, or 1/2 cup of cooked rice or pasta. Look to see that grains such as wheat, rice, oats, or corn are referred to as "whole" in the list of ingredients.”

Crackers, pasta and cereal are products made from refined flour (even if it says “whole grain”). Eating these foods is really no different than eating cake and candy because your body quickly breaks down the carbohydrates in the food and turns it into sugar. This spike in your blood glucose causes a rush of insulin to keep things under control. The final outcome of this process is the storage of fat.

The NIH recommends eating fat-free and low fat foods. We need healthy fat regularly throughout the day. Butter, olives, nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, avocados and fish oil give you healthy fat. Your cells require fat, your brain requires fat, and you need fat to make your sex hormones, among other things.

The low-fat theory was proposed by Ancel Keys in the 1950’s. It was just a theory that was not substantiated by research. In fact, the NIH spent hundreds of millions of dollars funding studies in an attempt to prove that fat was connected to heart disease, and no connection could be made. If you want to know everything there is to know about how we came to believe that fat is evil and bread is good, then read Gary Taubes 500-page tome, Good Calories, Bad Calories. Or check out his article in the NY Times, What if it has all been a big fat lie?”

Building a Healthy First Line of Defense

Building a Healthy First Line of Defense

by Erin Chamerlik, Health & Nutrition Educator
March 20, 2010

70 - 80% of our Immune system is in the gut!
Beneficial bacteria, or probiotics, normally live in the gut - or digestive tract.
When you are healthy over 100 trillion organisms flourish in your intestinal tract, over 400 different species.

The healthy probiotics have many jobs:
  • Aid digestion
  • Help with absorption of nutrients
  • Prevent overgrowth of yeast, Candida albicans
  • Keep bad bacteria in check by crowding them out
  • Produce natural antibiotics
  • Help reduce LDL cholesterol
  • Make vitamins like K and B vitamins and enzymes
Probiotics provide a variety of benefits in the body:
• Enhanced immunity
• Reduce traveler’s diarrhea
• rebuilding healthy bacteria after taking antibiotics

Can help with:
bad breath
intestinal gas
improving cholesterol
building immunity
allergies
respiratory, bladder or urinary tract infection
lowering cholesterol
Inhibit disease
Protection against food poisoning and ulcers

Improving appearance of skin
What causes the good bacteria to decrease or be killed?
1. Antibiotics – Reduce the population of all bacteria. – The good and the bad. – This is open season for yeast to grow – mouth (thrush), vaginal yeast, gut
2. Prescribed and over the counter medication
3. Chlorine and fluoride in tap water – they sterilize your drinking water and it kill your good bacteria.
4. The meat and chicken you eat may be loaded with antibiotics
5. Environmental pollutants
6. Mental and physical stress
7. Chemotherapy and radiation
8. Tobacco
9. Alcohol
10. Getting older
Older people already have a problem with keeping their probiotics strong.
Often they are put on antibiotics and don’t eat a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit.
They don’t eat the right foods with B vitamins and if they do, then they can’t absorb them properly, so they become deficient.
B12 deficiency can look like dementia or alzheimers, or depression. ( Natural doctors know to try supplementing with B12, and in some cases have completely reversed what was thought to be alzheimers.)
Perque makes an excellent sublingual B12.

Low Stomach Acid can also decrease probiotics!

Most people reach for Tums or Prilosec if they have heart burn or acid reflux when the opposite is usually the problem.: Too little acid.

Supplement daily with a good probiotic. I've listed some great books that can help you learn more about natural cures for heart burn and acid reflux.

High calcium causing heart attacks? Vitamin K to the rescue!

High calcium causing heart attacks? Vitamin K to the rescue!
by Dr. Susan E. Brown, PhD

High calcium causing heart attacks? Vitamin K to the rescue!
You’ve likely heard the media furor around a recent finding that use of calcium supplements is associated with a higher risk of heart attack, based on a study published in the British Medical Journal a month or so ago.

Many people I’ve heard from are surprised and alarmed by this news — but unfortunately, it’s not news to me. In my 2000 book, Better Bones, Better Body, on p. 248, I wrote, “Over and over we are told to consume adequate calcium.

What we are not told, however, is that we also need… other bone building nutrients. They also forget to tell us that it can actually be harmful to consume high levels of calcium without its companion nutrients.”

Calcium doesn’t magically travel straight from your yogurt to your bones, as some advertisers would have you believe (I discuss this in my article The calcium myth). Instead, it needs companion nutrients that help with absorption, utilization, and regulation of calcium in not only the bones, but also the blood, organs, and other tissues.

The fact that vitamin D is crucial for calcium absorption is becoming better recognized by researchers and the public alike thanks to an avalanche of research on vitamin D, but another vitamin — vitamin K — is, in my opinion, the “next big breakthrough” for bone (and overall) health.

You see, vitamin K (specifically K2 in the form of MK-7) has a very critical role to play in binding calcium to the tissues that need it, particularly the bones. And if vitamin K is present and doing its job, calcium meant for the bones and teeth doesn’t wind up being calcified in the arteries, setting the stage for heart disease.

But heart disease is not the only health problem that arises with excess calcium — it’s just the most frightening possibility out there. High calcium intake interferes with the absorption or utilization of other nutrients, including manganese, magnesium, iron, zinc, and phosphorus (most of which, by no coincidence, are key minerals involved in keeping bone strong and flexible).
And calcium and magnesium work in concert so that increasing your calcium levels without simultaneously increasing magnesium can promote calcium deposits in the joints or kidneys, leading to arthritis and kidney stones! In a nutshell, supplementing with high levels of calcium alone tips the scales not toward better, healthier bones and bodies, but away from them.
Fortunately, rebalancing those scales is easy!
We need to recognize, first of all, that we don’t really need the very high calcium intakes that we’re constantly told will strengthen our bones, and second, that we’d fare better with a comprehensive nutritional approach to osteoporosis and overall health that includes, at the very minimum, vitamin D, magnesium, and above all vitamin K2 to balance the body’s absorption, metabolism, and utilization of calcium.
Also, there is a large body of scientific research on vitamin K and the prevention of arterial calcification.Should you be interested in knowing more, take a look at my article, “Vitamin K: the overlooked bone builder and heart protector.”

Can You Heal Alzheimer's With Diet And Supplements?

The whole story on Jimmy Moore's Blog

According to the latest statistics from the Alzheimer’s Association, a total of 5.3 million people are currently afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease at an annual cost of $172 billion in medical-related expenses.

It is the 7th leading cause of death in 2010 and mortality rates have risen a whopping 46.1 % from 2000-2006 (meanwhile death rates from stroke, prostate cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, and HIV have all DROPPED during that same period).

With the baby boomer generation coming of age, the incidence of Alzheimer’s has unfortunately become more and more prevalent with the rates expected to nearly triple by the year 2050.

For those 5 million plus people with Alzheimer’s disease, think about the countless tens of millions more family members who are forced to watch their loved ones deteriorate right before their eyes so that they no longer even resemble who they were before being afflicted with this terrible condition.

Even worse is the realization that this family member you built such great memories with over the years now doesn’t even know who you are anymore. This has got to be one of the saddest ways to live out your final days on Earth after living so many years of your life cognizant of everything going on around you. And yet this is the reality that directly impacts so many families worldwide who are left to pick up the pieces when they’re told it’s Alzheimer’s disease.

Unfortunately, medical treatment options for Alzheimer’s patients is limited almost exclusively

to pharmaceutical therapies. When a loved one is diagnosed with having Alzheimer’s disease, the medical profession tends to offer up a prescription drug and informs the family to prepare a will while the loved one still has their mental faculties and they are urged to begin making arrangements to place the Alzheimer’s-stricken family member in a nursing home. This is a ritual that has become much too commonplace with the steady rise in Alzheimer’s in recent years and it’s not going to get better anytime soon. It’s as if physicians have just thrown up their hands in defeat and given up on people who have Alzheimer’s disease thinking there is nothing more that can be done for them beyond medication (and, sadly, we’ve seen this play out with other diseases as well).

But what if you could actually heal Alzheimer’s disease through some simple changes in diet and supplementation?

Is it REALLY possible to transform the life of someone with Alzheimer’s by making some nutritional alterations that none of these medical experts are talking about?

That’s exactly what a woman from Bedford, Indiana named Nita Scoggan wanted to find out.
After she and her husband Bill enjoyed a fantastic life together working for the federal government at both the Pentagon and the White House in Washington, DC during the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton eras, they retired back to Bill’s birthplace in Indiana to enjoy the twilight of their lives together near family and friends.

They had great hopes of traveling around the world and doing the things they’ve always wanted to do. But in 1999, Nita noticed that Bill began exhibiting behaviors that had her very concerned about the condition of his brain health.

Forgetfulness was becoming the norm and he even seemed like he was in a fog most of the time. She scheduled an appointment to see a series of doctors who all confirmed her worst fears–Bill was quickly approaching an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s disease. After getting past the initial shock and devastation of this grim news, Nita was told to prepare Bill to live with this for the rest of his life. However, she refused to think the man she loved would be in a virtual vegetative state for his remaining days and so she implored the savvy research analyst skills she honed while working at the Pentagon to begin reading all studies that she could get her hands on about nutrition and supplements as it relates to Alzheimer’s disease. What she discovered and had never heard about before absolutely astounded her!

Grains and other sugary/starchy carbohydrates were making Bill’s brain run sluggish and so she had to immediately cut down on his consumption of these brain-draning foods.

Additionally, when she came across a little-known supplement called Phosphatidylserine, the changes she began noticing in Bill when he took high doses of it were dramatic–the impact of his Alzheimer’s disease reversed and he began getting BETTER.

The amazing transformation back to the Bill she knew and loved for so many years didn’t happen overnight, but within two years the negative effects of his Alzheimer’s disease was no longer apparent. He had been healed thanks to the changes in his nutrition and vitamins that Nita had implemented.

It was this protocol that became the basis for the books and resources she now offers people who are interested in trying this method on their own family members with Alzheimer’s disease.

One of my longtime readers told me about this remarkable story earlier this year and so I contacted Nita about doing a podcast interview. When I heard back from her, Nita said she thought it would be a lot more convincing for me to come visit her and Bill in person to capture them on video.

Since I already do regular YouTube videos, I thought that was a great idea. When I asked where they lived she responded, “Oh, it’s a little small town in Indiana you’ve probably never heard of called Bedford.” Well, as fate would have it, I had heard of it because my wife Christine’s family lives in this exact same town! While we were on vacation there last week for our annual family reunion, I drove just 1.6 miles from Christine’s grandparents’ house to meet up with this delightful couple who welcomed me into their home with open arms enthusiastically ready to share their miraculous story of love, determination, and a pursuit of the truth about Alzheimer’s disease.

This truly is a breathtaking tale of triumph for healthy low-carb living and in finding natural ways to combat the diseases that plague modern society. When conventional medicine chooses to give up on patients they think have no hope for recovery from something like Alzheimer’s disease, it’s time for people like Nita Scoggan to step in and shout it from the rooftops the truth that she has discovered and witnessed happen for people like her husband Bill.

Sure, some will dismiss this as just one anecdotal story and that it doesn’t prove anything scientifically. But it’s difficult to argue with the results she and others are seeing using fresh real whole foods and dietary supplementation.

How many families are needlessly suffering with the ravages of Alzheimer’s believing their doctor was right when he said there is nothing more he can do for their loved one? How many just give up because they think it’s an inevitable fate?

Let this tale of love starring Bill and Nita Scoggan encourage you today as you listen to them share what it was like going through this experience–in their own words–and how they are now helping others who are going through a similar fate.

This is arguably one of the most remarkably uplifting and inspiring interviews I have ever and probably will ever conduct and I’m privileged to share it with you today!" - Jimmy Moore

Pampers.com Gives Ridiculous Advice to Pregnant Women on Aspartame

Here's some of the bad nutrition advice coming out of pampers.com in an article, "Eating for Two..."
ASPARTAME (NUTRASWEET) Aspartame has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for consumption in pregnancy, and all reports suggest that it is safe in moderation.

and this...

Here are the major food categories, with examples of one serving:YOUR DAILY FOOD CHOICES
Breads, cereals, whole grains: 6-11 servings daily
• 1 slice bread• 1 hamburger bun or English muffin• 3-4 small or 2 large crackers• 1 cup cooked cereal, pasta, or rice• 1 ounce ready-to-eat cereal

and this...

CALORIES Most pregnant women need about 300 additional calories per day. This translates to two cups of low-fat milk, one cup of ice cream, a bagel with cream cheese, or a tuna fish sandwich.

Erin's comment (posted on the pampers website unless they remove it!)

Why would the FDA "approve" aspartame as safe?

75% of adverse reactions to food additives reported (to the FDA!) are from Aspartame.
Aspartame has no place in the diet, especially for pregnant women and children.

Scientific studies document that Aspartame can cause siezures, headaches, brain tumors, nausea, cramps, high blood pressure...and about 80 other conditions.

The studies are documented in an extensive book about Excitotoxins by neurosurgeon, Russell Blaylock MD.

I also would strongly caution women against consuming 6-11 servings of bread, cereals, crackers, and pasta as these refined and processed foods convert rapidly to sugar in the bloodstream, spiking your blood glucose levels leading to a rush of insulin which will eventually lead to stored fat.

Consuming this quantitiy of simple, refined grains is a recipe for insulin resistance and possibly type 2 diabetes.

I recommend eating quality protein at every meal like grass-fed beef, free range chickens and eggs, lamb, bison. Load up on the vegetables, especially dark green leafy ones! You and your babies need healthy fat for brain development. Make sure you have DHA in your diet! Enjoy salmon and sardines a few times a week.

Avoid, like the plague, anything that is cooked up in a laboratory including aspartame, sucralose, MSG, and anything else on the ingredient label that you don't recognize as real food.

Are You Still Drinking Pop? by Erin Chamerlik

Soda contains high amounts of phosphoric acid which weakens the bones and teeth. Unfortunately that is just the beginning of problems caused by drinking soda.

Regular soda is made with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). HFCS is known to cause liver damage and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

So, why are you drinking soda?

a. You don’t believe me
b. You never knew this fact
c. You do other crazy things that might lead to death, like standing in the middle of the freeway during rush hour.

Let’s pick on the most famous artificial sweetener, Aspartame (aka Equal or NutraSweet).

The FDA knows that aspartame causes seizures and brain tumors in lab animals and yet this stuff is still being put in thousands of products.

Initially the FDA withheld approval of aspartame for eight years, but under pressure from the food industry it was approved. The scandalous history of aspartame shows the power that profits have over the health of people.

Diet soda is just as bad as regular soda.
Artificial sweeteners, like Aspartame, can be made cheaply and appear in everything from yogurt to children’s vitamins and other over the counter medications.

Dr. Janet Hull has written several books on artificial sweeteners and Splenda.
Her website, Sweet Poison, states that there are over 92 side effects from aspartame.

Headache
Dizziness
Mood change
Nausea
Cramps
High blood pressure
Seizures and convulsions
Memory loss
Fatigue

Dr. Hull states that Aspartame may mimic, trigger or cause the following illnesses:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Epstein-Barr
Post-Polio Syndrome
Lyme Disease
Grave’s Disease
Meniere’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)

Russell Blaylock, MD, neurosurgeon and author of several books on the subject of excitotoxins had this to say in his book Health and Nutrition Secrets that can Save Your Life,

“even drinking one diet cola a day can produce significant genetic damage.”

Aspartame breaks down to form formaldehyde in the body (embalming fluid, anyone?).
This formaldehyde accumulates near the DNA of your cells, damaging “command central” of your cells. Genetic damage can occur from as little as one dose of aspartame a day. (Run to the frig and look at your yogurt ingredients!)

The damage may be cumulative and develop over time.
Christine Lydon, MD

Dr. Blaylock said in an interview with Natural News:

“You're talking about tens of millions of people, and they are out there gobbling up aspartame, MSG and other excitotoxins, and no one is telling them they are making their neurological conditions infinitely worse. I don't know how many seizure patients I've gotten off their medicines by just getting them off MSG and giving them magnesium. They quit having seizures. They were on maximum dosages of medications and still having seizures. Most neurologists and neurosurgeons that treat seizures are not aware of this.”

Can you still justify your daily dose of diet pop?
This chemical is dangerous and it is addictive.
We have been given an important stewardship responsibility for our bodies. We spend time caring for our homes and vehicles. We watch our budget and try to spend wisely, and yet when it comes to our bodies, we are willing eat and drink chemicals that have been created in a test tube. Hundreds of studies document the damage that these toxic chemicals cause, but we choose to listen to the soothing voice of those that take our money, “don’t worry, it is completely harmless.”

Get The Facts - Pancreatic Cancer Cells Love Fructose!

Why is cancer overtaking heart disease as the #1 killer?
Let's look at one food ingredient that you can skip forever

Sadly, this week I have learned that four people connected to my friends and family have pancreatic cancer.

What is going on?

Why is cancer overtaking heart disease as the #1 killer?

There are probably a million reasons, but I will share one very important reason and it is probably something you might even consume on a regular basis.

Shopping used to be easy when most food came from farms. Now, most of the food in stores comes from factories. I read that a typical grocery store stocks 40,000 – 65,000 SKU’s.

If I forget to bring my reading glasses to the store I may end up with a cart full of toxic food. Much of this factory food has ingredient labels written in micro print and lists ingredients that we can't pronounce or recognize as food.

Chemical additives have become commonplace in the American diet and relatively few people know that they need to read labels to keep the chemicals out of their kitchens.

I will give you a few bad ingredients to avoid:
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup
  • Sodium nitrite
  • Fake sugar like Splenda, Sucralose, Saccharin, Aspartame, Nutrasweet and AminoSweet
  • Fake fat like Olestra and hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated fats
  • Food dyes
A new study found that cancer cells like to eat fructose, a type of sugar.

Come to find out, pancreatic cancer cells have a favorite food, fructose.
You can read all about this in the medical journal called, Cancer Research.

Are you eating and drinking fructose in excess?
In America, we mainly get fructose in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

This nasty brew is cooked up in a lab and put in thousands of products like soft drinks, bread (I challenge you to grab your favorite loaf of bread – does it have high fructose corn syrup?), candy, cookies, salad dressing, cereal and crackers.

Why do food manufacturers use HFCS?
Profit margins!
This cheap sweetener costs far less than regular sugar.
The clever folks in the corn refining marketing group pump out the commercials getting you to believe that high fructose corn syrup is natural and safe. Watch the commercial.

The corn used to make this product is usually genetically modified, adding to the horror.

The body recognizes fructose when it comes packaged in a piece of fruit or in a vegetable.

It does not recognize the imposter, HFCS, and sends it off to the liver. The liver can turn it into fat. You can begin to see why kids are turning up with fatty liver disease without being alcoholics.

HFCS messes up the normal signals that the brain gets so you never get the message “I’m full, stop eating.”

Is there hope for us?
Yes!
Stop eating foods made from artificial ingredients and stop drinking any kind of pop!

Eat whole foods, the ones you find on the perimeter of the grocery store like fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, and butter!

Spend less time surfing the aisles of boxed foods and just pick up a bag of brown rice, or some dried beans, lentils, nuts and seeds.

What, no cookies or cakes? You’ll live. You’ll live longer, in fact.
Hope for Pancreatic Cancer?

What about our friends with pancreatic cancer?
There is a very smart doctor in New York that has been having amazing success treating pancreatic cancer. Immunologist Nick Gonzales, MD began a pilot study 17 years ago with a new alternative protocol for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Normally, patients that are in advanced stages of the cancer survive just 4 months. Dr. Gonzales’ patients in this stage were surviving over 17 months.

An article highlighting these results were reported by CNN over 11 years ago.

Did you hear about Dr. Gonzales? Not unless you read Suzanne Somers book, Knockout, Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer and How to Prevent Getting it in the First Place.

Since then Dr. Gonzales has continued to help people live long lives after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and other cancers. The program involves nutrition, juicing, special enzymes…nothing fancy, nothing that can be patented. Nothing with a lot of profit margin.

Click here to read dozens of stories of real people that beat their cancer with Dr. Gonzales protocol.

High fructose is in soda pop and it is dangerous. We saw at the beginning of this newsletter that cancer cells love to eat fructose.  A can of pop has about 10 tsp of this stuff.

Day after day we consume an average of 150 pounds of sugar per person per year. It is taking a toll on your health and the health of your children.

Artificial sweeteners are also dangerous. Richard Wurtman at MIT is an aspartame researcher. He has found that artificial sweeteners increase your appetite and they are toxic to your brain cells. Last year another study linked HFCS to high blood pressure.

Guess what?  A diagnosis and a prognosis is not the end of the story.  People reverse disease and cancer every day.  Everyone has cancer cells circulating in their bodies.  Does your nutrition and lifestyle support your immune system so that you are strong to fight the invaders?

Prevention is the best cure.
